Episode Guide: 418
The crew watches the arrival of Commonwealth spy Indra Xicol, who has been sent to collect the Star Map. Dylan and Rommie welcome the beautiful woman to Command, and she presents him with a Commonwealth Medallion from the Triumvirs, hoping to build a foundation of trust. She claims the Triumvirate has finally come to terms with the fact that Dylan and the Star Map are their only hope of defeating the Magog. She hopes to receive such trust in return, expecting Dylan to hand over the Star Map Ñ which Dylan says was recently stolen from the Andromeda. The only choice now is to collect the copy that he entrusted to friends who hide on a planet protected by a dangerous and nearly incalculable Slipstream maze. Dylan asks that she join him and Rhade on the mission, though the rest of the crew distrusts her intentions. They are wary of her advances on Dylan but will stay behind on high alert, as the Triumvirs now have their location and are on the way.
Rhade pilots the Eureka Maru into the maze and they are battered about, navigating with the directions from Dylan’s contacts on the planet. They break into the atmosphere and land at the mouth of a cave, which Dylan has explained is also maze-like, misleading and apparently shifting before their eyes. They proceed, following Dylan’s memory as well as readouts from Rhade’s palm monitor until Rhade gets separated from the others. Indra and Dylan continue until they are trapped between an abyssal chasm and a collapsed tunnel. Dylan swings them across on his grappling hook and they tumble to the ground in each others’ arms. Indra takes the opportunity to steal a kiss and asks him, Commonwealth aside, if there is a chance for them. He is tempted but admits they both have agendas and shouldn't be too comfortable yet.
The two round the corner and Dylan is greeted by familiar sounds as they find his friend Calvino throwing a grand tantrum in his dining room. His servant Roddick is attempting to console him about his wife Astrid when Calvino spots Dylan. They greet each other like old friends and Dylan asks for the map. Calvino says his wife has it and falls into another rant, cursing her name. He throws an entire stack of plates in the air, but Indra deftly catches and stacks them, sobering them all. Then Astrid bursts in, hurling insults as he hurled plates. She pauses long enough to greet Dylan and the couple resume their spat.
Introductions are made, but Astrid immediately distrusts Indra, warning Dylan she isn’t who she claims to be and then storming out again. Calvino gives Dylan directions to Astrid's room to retrieve the Star Map and hands him a piece of a locket. Dylan and Indra become lost along the way, and though Indra accuses Dylan of setting up a trick, she becomes more intrigued than angry with him.
They interrupt their flirting when they find Rhade, but then after a few steps they are all separated. Rhade finds Astrid's chambers first; she asks what he desires and slaps him when he only asks for the map. She is informing him her husband has the map when Indra steps in to say otherwise. Rhade backs out to let the women talk, and the two bond over their problems with men.
Dylan is in a secret meeting with Calvino where the two are discussing this whole ruse. The whole point was to test whether Indra is who she says she is and whether she’s trustworthy Ñ yet Dylan still finds himself drawn to her. Calvino simply cautions his friend before sending him to Astrid's quarters. Astrid and Dylan hand Indra the two halves of the locket and she puts them together. The center is still missing and Indra sees Dylan holding it. He completes the locket and puts it around her neck. It is the final show of trust as she now possesses the copy of the Star Map. Astrid leaves them to find her husband, and Dylan and Indra fall into bed.
The Andromeda is holding her post as the Tri-Ship and a fleet of Commonwealth ships arrive from Slipstream. Tri-Jema contacts them, ordering them to hold position and demands Dylan’s location. Harper and Rommie rotate the ship on its axis so Beka can escape to the planet's surface undetected. She flies down to warn Dylan, who feigned sleep as Indra snuck out with the map. Indra powers up her hidden Slipfighter, regretful but resolved, and takes off. Rhade monitors her as she enters the Slipstream maze off the correct cycle with little or no hope of ever exiting.
Calvino and Astrid console Dylan. He had to test her Ñ and she unfortunately took the foolish path. Beka contacts them, telling them the Andromeda is surrounded, and Dylan and Rhade take the Eureka through the maze to rendezvous with her. Tri-Jema intercepts them on the other side, demanding the Star Map. Dylan admits defeat and invites her to travel through the maze to get it from Indra. The crew watches, satisfied, as the Tri-Ship falls for their trap and jumps into the Slipstream maze.
Indra plugs the Star Map into her console, hoping to find an exit from the maze. She receives an unwelcome shock when she only gets a goodbye recording from Dylan informing her there was never a copy of the map and it was never stolen Ñ that this was all a test for anyone Tri-Jema sent. He leaves her with his wish that if she doesn't die in the maze, she may emerge a changed and better person. She looks up in time to see the Tri-Ship plummeting out of control straight towards her. The huge ship barely misses her as it hammers off the Slipstream walls and disintegrates in a massive explosion. Dylan and Trance look out over a field of stars, carrying only a faint hope for Indra as they prepare to move on.
